The GW Jazz Orchestra

GW's premier student jazz ensemble

The GW Jazz Orchestra (GWJO) is the premier student jazz ensemble at the George Washington University, organized as a Student Organization under the auspices of the Center for Student Engagement. In January of 2015, Co-Founders Zach Sanders and Peter Reiss had an idea for a new breed of jazz at GW. Synthesizing the incredible talent already present in the jazz scene at GW, Zach and Peter, with the help of the Founding Members, officially filed for Student Organization status in March of 2015. With the GW Jazz Program, a sub-area within the Department of Music, suffering from administrative budget cuts, the GWJO came about at a critical time for the jazz community. Since then, the GWJO has laid at the cornerstone between the Department of Music and student life, offering an exciting brand of jazz to the GW community.

Since its founding, the GW Jazz Orchestra has performed for various audiences at diverse venues across GW's Foggy Bottom Campus and the greater DMV area. These performances include multiple engagements at the Corcoran School of Art and Design, GW's Lisner Auditorium, Dorothy Betts Marvin Theatre, the Spanish Ballroom at Glen Echo Park, and the Thomas Jefferson National Memorial. The GWJO has worked with various organizations such as the GW Department of Music, the American Museum of Peace, Honor Flights DC, and the Glen Echo Park Partnership for Arts & Culture.

The GWJO is available for hire for private events and performances during the Academic Year (September through April).
